Ellen Burke Van Slyke, originally from the Northeast, currently resides in Arizona. She has a B.A. from Wellesley College and studied with Jim Gahagan.

The work is about rapture – the surrender to desire, the ephemeral search for beauty, and the profound hunger for love. Burke Van Slyke paints sensual, bold and deeply colorful images that speak to the moment between the consciousness of intellect and the unconscious longing of the loins.

The organization of the paintings is based on these key elements
